About LocalConvert
Most "free online converters" work the same way: you upload your file to someone else's server, wait, and hope the file is deleted afterwards. That model has two built-in problems — your private files travel across the internet to a company you know nothing about, and servers cost money, which is why those sites push subscriptions, watermarks and file-size limits.
LocalConvert takes the opposite approach. Every tool on this site runs entirely inside your browser, powered by the same open-source libraries desktop applications use, compiled to WebAssembly. Your files are opened locally, processed locally, and saved locally. There is no upload endpoint anywhere on this site.
What that means in practice
- Privacy: contracts, IDs, medical documents and client work never leave your machine.
- Speed: no upload and download time — a large file starts converting instantly.
- No limits: your device does the work, so we don't need to meter usage or sell "premium" tiers to cover server bills.
- Verifiability: open your browser's developer tools, watch the network tab, convert a file. After the page loads, nothing is transmitted.
Who builds this
LocalConvert is an independent project built by a small team that believes everyday utilities should be private by default. The site is sustained by unobtrusive advertising on the page — never by doing anything with your files.
